How much of the Trail has been completed?

Nearly 10 miles are open near Windsor, south of Kodak, through Water Valley and Eastman park, and in Greeley, near Island Grove Park. Work is being done on the section between Island Grove Park and 71st Ave opening up access for the Greeley residents on the east side of town to the western portions of trail. Visit our Trail Tour to see what sections are completed and those which are under construction.

How is the Trail being funded?

The trail is being funded through monies raised from individual contributions, in-kind donations, and matching grants. Currently, a region wide fundraising effort is underway to solicit funds from a wide range of individuals, businesses, and foundations. Very few tax monies are being used in the construction of the trail, so raising the funds is truly a community project. Check the News page for upcoming fundraising events and volunteer projects.

What are the benefits of the Poudre River Trail?

The greatest impact of this trail is saving the natural resources for the future generations living in these communities. The resources located along the Cache La Poudre are unique to the area and will be lost forever if not protected. We now have the chance to preserve a local treasure and provide the opportunity for community members to enjoy this resource.

How is the Poudre River Trail being maintained?

A portion of the monies raised for the development of the trail is being set aside in an endowment to help fund perpetual maintenance of the trail. This fund will assist with capital replacement needs and maintenance to ensure that the trail will continue to be a positive reflection upon the donors and the community. Poudre River Trail Corridor Inc. has formed relationships with different community entities committed to proper patrol of the trail.

How did the Poudre Trail get started?

Since the 1970's residents of Greeley, Windsor, and Weld County have expressed interest in the idea of a trail along the Cache La Poudre River. In the late 1980's Greeley City Council established the Poudre Trail as a goal and in 1991 the Greenway Commission was formed. In 1995, a trail master plan was adopted, which then led to the founding of the nonprofit organization, Poudre River Trail Corridor Inc. PRTC Inc. is compromised of a group of volunteers and local government staff members dedicated to completing the trail.
